Sleeping Cat turned Butterfly

I found this frame at my local thrift store and thought it would make for a cute project. The original picture was of a sleeping kitty. I have nothing against sleeping cats, but I didn't think it would make for a cute decor piece in a little girls room. I do, however, think that some butterflies are an essential part of little girl decor.


I first took the backing off (it was that brown paper that is glued to the frame) and then removed the "painted" image of the cat. I just covered it with some super cute scrapbook paper.


Then I took my MS butterfly punch and punched several butterflies in varying paper that coordinated. I glued just the bodies down so that the wings to be raised to give it a 3-D look. I just eyeballed my spacing...

I just love the way it turned out, and it goes perfectly in my daughters room.

Transformation #2

I don't normally double post but I will be out tomorrow due to surgery and may not be able to post any time soon. I wanted to leave you with a fun idea that could be done when you have that extra time from the Holiday weekend.

While shopping my favorite thrift store a few weeks ago, I came across this metal lunch pail. I had no idea what I would do with it just yet, but at $.80, I just couldn't pass it up.

Yesterday a thought struck me. I was in need of a new pot for my flowers but didn't want to spend the $$$ on one. Then I remembered my lunch pail! I just hammered a few drainage holes in the bottom and filled 'er up! A nice little touch I think. I can't wait for it to get a gorgeous weathered patina! (aka rusty!) :)

Repurposing an old frame

I found this cute-ish picture frame at the thrift store a few months ago and spray painted the frame black. For a while it just held the "art" it came with. It kind of went with my country motif so it worked for a little while. BUT, I have been so antsy to change some decor. I wanted to think of ways to do that WITHOUT spending any money.

Yesterday afternoon (during that blissful hour known as "NAP TIME") I grabbed some items out of my craft room and started re-purposing that old frame!


I love it! And it was so quick and easy to do. I changed out the nest because I think the original one I picked was a little too big.

Repurposing your items

I sometimes find that the best form of retail therapy is to shop my house. Ok, reeeally, it's my husbands best form for me :-) lol.

I do enjoy finding new purposes for items that I truly love, that are not being used to their full potential. It typically goes like this: I am at (the store) when I spy something I cannot live without. Where will it go? How will I use it? Hmmm, I have no clue, but it's coming home with me anyway! 

I know once I get it home inspiration will strike (who cares if it's a year later, right?) :) Case in point: I purchased this tiered desert stand from a blogger. I was In Love with it, but had no "home" for it. The price was Amazing so I just could not resist. It sat on top of my hutch for about 3 months. Then, about a week ago, I had an amazing idea! 

I have been on the hunt for a smaller jewellery box but could not find one that suited the style in my room, or personal taste. As I was rearranging my room (per the nester's instructions) I thought, how would that tiered do-dad work?

I love it so much and I can not believe it took me that long to think of it! (please don't mind the dresser-that is an "I am refinishing this thing!" project taking place this spring!) :-)
