So many apples

What to do with an abundance of apples?

Make apples sauce of course! And apple crisp, and BBQ sauce, and Apple-Pumpkin butter!

All of the above recipes turned out super yummy! I had a day full of peeling, coring, slicing, baking. It was fun! And the children enjoyed it to!

Here is one of the recipes we made. Enjoy this for a wonderful Thanksgiving dessert.

Apple Crisp
10 cups of apples - peeled, cored, sliced
1 cup of sugar
1 tablespoon of flour
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 cup water
---------------------------------------
1 cup of (quick cook) oats
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup of brown sugar (packed)
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 cup of butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350. Place apples in a 9x13 pan. Mix sugar, flour, and cinnamon together and sprinkle over apples. Pour water over evenly. Combine oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and melted butter, crumble evenly over apple mixture.
Bake for 45 minutes.

Out of the mouths of Babes

I just adore having conversations with my 2yr old daughter. She says the funniest things! This last night for example:

Me: Finish your green beans and then you can have dessert (apple crisp w/ vanilla ice cream)

Her: Jus one little bite?

Me: No. You have to eat it all gone, take a big bite.

Her: Please jus one little bite?

Me: (looking at her plate, she only has two bites worth) Two bites ok.

Her: *places ONE green bean on fork*

Me: You need to take two Big bites.

Her: But momma, if I take a big bite I'll CHOKE!

Me: Silent... trying desperately not to laugh... at her witty 2 yr old way of trying to get out of eating all of her green beans.

Homemade Holidays

This year I have vowed to make EVERYTHING homemade. I usually do a mix of store-bought and homemade, but things are just too expensive, and it gives me a reason to delve into my art supplies! :)

I am starting with my stockings this week. This will take me a little while because I am not completely sure what I want them to look like and I know I will have C and A help make theirs.

If you are planning on making your own stockings this year, here are a few ideas to help you make your decision.

Classic Yo-Yo's sewn onto a pre-made stocking will add such warm detail

Felt Star Stocking
Simple felt edged with pinking shears and decorated with stars, so cute and perfect for little ones to help with.

Pre-made Stocking
Embellish store-bought stockings or socks for a whimsy feel

Red and White
So very classy and just pretty to look at

Red and White Toile
This classic print will be welcomed back year after year

Modern
Felt with felt cutouts-I just love this!

Mitten Stocking
I just love this idea, especially for those celebrating their 1st Christmas! This would also be easy for little ones to participate in.

Toe and Heel Stocking
Adding a different fabric at the toe and heel will dramatically change old stocking into new ones.

More Felt
These are my Favorite! I am in love with those snowflakes!

Left-overs
Take some leftover fabric from curtains and make new stockings, they will certain;y match your decor!

Adorable Cuff
I love the embellishment on this cuff. Just sew some buttons on for a dressed up look.

Trick-or-Treat

Terribly clever title, I know. I am a little late in posting C's and A's Costumes, but, better late than never, right. C had to be a Hi-Tech Robot this year and A just had to be a princess. So, without further ado, here is C...

Next we have the Beautiful A...

They both absolutely loved their costumes! A was happy she got wear "Mommy Make-Up" and C thought his flashing lights were "Awesome!!!". I hope you all had a safe and fun Trick-or-treating night!
